These mechanisms owe much of their form to a sketch of a renaissance trench-digging machine by Leonardo da Vinci. Having marvelled at the striking resemblance to some of my own designs, I went on to create six Sisyphus Machines as homage both to Leonardo and to the boundless human ability to create endless work for ourselves.
